Part of having an effective weight loss plan is eating a variety of nutrients. You definitely can’t survive on spinach and lemon water for a healthy diet plan! And by not eating a wide range of foods, you’re probably missing out on key super nutrients to help your body function at its best. Let’s focus on some of our favorites here!

Turmeric

This bright orange-yellow spice is one of our top spices. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties, helping with everything from rheumatoid arthritis to irritable bowel syndrome. You can sprinkle it in just about anything or try our recipe for
Ginger tea that is soothing and has turmeric as one of its many healthy ingredients.

Grapefruit

These pretty, bright vitamin C powerhouses also contain monoterpenes, which are known for sweeping the body of carcinogens and other toxins – wow!  Beyond that, they also have loads of fiber, potassium, lycopene, and choline helping to maintain a healthy heart. Pumpkin seeds

Not just for snacks in October, pumpkin seeds should be enjoyed year round to get all of their super nutrients. High in protein, iron, and zinc, they’re also one of the best sources of magnesium, a mineral that helps stabilize blood pressure, build bone strength, and even reduce stress. Sprinkle them on salads, add them into your granola, or just munch on them for a mid-day snack. Yum!

Chia seeds

Gaining in popularity the last few years are these teeny tiny seeds that are an incredible fiber resource with nearly half (11 grams) of the amount you need daily – all in one ounce of seeds! And if you’ve given up dairy and are missing calcium, definitely consider chia seeds since they also contain 18 percent of your daily calcium requirement – more than triple that of milk. Try our recipe for Vanilla Chia pudding which is a great way to enjoy a healthy dessert and all of these super nutrients.

Cinnamon

Another one of our favorite spices is cinnamon. It just makes everything sweeter without the sugar and even helps control blood sugar and cholesterol. A recent study concluded that a cinnamon dose of just 120 milligrams per day can increase HDL (the “good”) cholesterol, and that’s definitely good news! Sprinkle it in your coffee or oatmeal or try our Honey roasted cinnamon chickpeas for a healthy and crunchy snack.

Quinoa

We love quinoa – if you’ve seen our recipe you know that! And here’s why: this whole grain packed with fiber and protein helps you feel full longer, making it an essential super nutrient for any weight loss diet plan. It’s also great for people that want a grain that’s gluten free, but still want that grainy texture in their foods. Try our Quinoa fried rice is the perfect side dish for any meal and makes great leftovers to take for lunch the next day, too.
