9 Fruits Most Americans Need To Be Eating

 

 

Looking to make some simple changes to your diet? Most Americans are consuming far too little fruits in vegetables in their daily diet, and it’s creating a terrible effect on our overall health.

When comparing our diets to those in other countries, our natural food consumption is completely overshadowed by our processed carbohydrate consumption. Why is this? For many, the convenience of “bad foods” is simple because they are easy and quick. And sometimes, even cheaper than buying natural fruits and veggies.

However, when you look at the long term health effects of bad food and the decades of healtcare costs associate with a bad diet, choosing to eat great foods like simply fruits can be drastically cheaper.

Blueberry

It contains flavanols needed to activate an enzyme in our body called eNOS. This fruit is a powerhouse of antioxidants that fight cancer and prevent macular degeneration, a condition that can cause blindness and blurred eyesight.  It has a deep blue cover owing to high amounts of phytonutrients.  It also reduces risk of a heart disease, cataracts, varicose veins, hemorrhoids, glaucoma and peptic ulcers.

 

Orange or grapefruit

These citrus fruits are good sources of vitamin C, potassium and hesperidin.  They also contain compounds that reduce insulin in the body and are linked to weight loss.  Even the scent of oranges produces a calming effect.

 

Banana

This fleshy fruit is considered a workout enhancer because it provides lots of workout fuel. It also helps reduce fatigue and dehydration.  Banana is a power fruit high in potassium that aids in controlling blood pressure and lowers the risk of stroke. It contains antacids that protect from ulcer.  It can improve bowel movement, protect eyesight, build better bones, and promotes kidney health.

 

Apple

It is said, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”  This cholesterol zapper is a very good source of fiber that can lower cholesterol.  Apples are a good ready-to-eat-snack that is filling and healthy.  A single medium-size apple contains four grams of soluble fiber.  It improves colon health and controls blood sugar levels. This fruit is also full of antioxidants.

 

Kiwi

Kiwi contains more than twice the vitamin C found in oranges. The fruit has been proven to prevent cataracts.

 

Grape

This vine fruit is a good source of resveratrol, an antioxidant that protects the body from cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes and heart disease.  The antioxidant is also known for its anti-aging properties.  Grapes contain very high glycogen and packed with vitamin A, C and B6 and folate.

 

Strawberry

A daily handful of strawberries can help control type 2 diabetes.  It is rich in antioxidants and a good source of vitamin B, C, potassium, fiber, manganese, iodine, folate, omega-3, fatty acids, magnesium and copper.  Grapes contain phenols that protect us from disease and promote good health.

 

Papaya

This fruit inherently contains papain, an enzyme that aids digestion.

 

Tomato

Rich in lycopene, tomatoes are good for fighting cancer. Add that to the fact that they taste delicious in soups and pasta.
