Carbs Can Help with Healthy Weight Loss

Healthy weight loss doesn’t have to mean a low carbohydrate diet program. In fact, the right carbohydrates can help you with your healthy weight loss efforts. Learn how to use carbs to your advantage to get the most fat loss you can out of your diet program.

How to Combine Carbs for Fast Weight Loss

For quick weight loss, always combine carbohydrates with a lean source of protein. When you eat carbs and fats together, they are more likely to get stored as fat. For healthy weight loss, a good rule to follow is to combine carbs with protein, but not with fat. You can combine protein with either fat or carbohydrates, but ideally, not at the same time.

Generally, it’s advisable to eat more often throughout the day instead of less often. While it sounds like this advice would go against fast weight loss goals, in actuality, eating more often revs up your metabolism. Think of starting your car. When you repeatedly turn the engine on over and over again, you use a lot more gasoline than if you turn it on once and leave it running.

Try to keep the complex carbs in the first few meals of the day. This will give you the energy you need to get through the day, but will also allow you to burn off the extra calories before bed.

When to Eat Carbs

When you’re ready to hit the sack at night, it makes sense that you don’t need to load up on energy. There’s no reason to eat a large meal before bed because these calories won’t be useful while you’re sleeping. For healthy weight loss, you’ll want to include carbs as part of your diet program, but only at the correct times.

If you’re going to workout, it’s best to have a slow burning source of carbohydrates an hour or two prior to your workout. This will supply you with an extended supply of energy to get you through a grueling workout. Include foods like oatmeal, yams, and brown rice as part of your diet program.

However, after the gym is when your carb needs change from slow digesting to fast burning. Try eating more simple carbs after a workout to replenish your glycogen and feed your muscles. Foods like fruit or yogurt with protein are great choices.

What Kind of Carbs to Eat for Healthy Fat Loss

Fat loss doesn’t mean you’ll never see a carb again. It just means you have to eat the right ones for your goals. If you’re hitting the gym on a regular basis, it’s okay to include carbs as part of a healthy weight loss program. Just make sure the carbs you eat are high quality, unprocessed, one ingredient foods.

Also, try to reduce your carbohydrate intake. When you consume carbs, your insulin levels spike. This is not desirable if your goal is fat loss because insulin promotes fat storage. The best way to keep insulin levels low is by eating the right kind of slow digesting carbs and timing their intake properly.
