Five Classic Films To Motivate Your Workout

Five movies that are surefire motivators to push you into working out more:

Enter The Dragon (1973)

Starring: Bruce Lee

Just looking at Bruce Lee’s physique makes you want to aspire for greatness in your fitness routines! The film is packed with training scenes that are perfect not only for martial arts enthusiasts, but also for people who want an alternative way to sweat it out.

Rocky (1976)

Starring: Sylvester Stallone, Carl Weathers, Talia Shire

The most iconic scene of the movie shows Rocky Balboa (played by Stallone) running up the steps going to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, hence the term “Rocky Steps”. It might look cheesy, but the pivotal scene may remind you that patience and perseverance in your workout will reap benefits.

The Karate Kid (1984)

Starring: Ralph Macchio, Noriyuki “Pat” Morita, Elisabeth Shue, William Zabka

Bullying as a motivation for fitness? It may seem like a negative way of pushing yourself, but what makes this film worth watching for anyone with a passion for fitness is the value of determination and hard work. Ralph Macchio’s character Daniel started off as a wimp in martial arts, but was determined to learn the craft.

We all know how it ends: a win for Daniel and newfound confidence and respect for himself — not to mention a smug smile of approval from Mr. Miyagi! Don’t you want to experience that kind of feeling during your exercise regimen?

Hoosiers (1986)

Starring: Gene Hackman, Barbara Hershey, Dennis Hopper

A local neighborhood basketball team that wants to become state champions: that’s the main motivation of the players in this hoops film starring Gene Hackman as the team’s coach. Despite all odds against him, the team eventually grabbed the Indiana state championship crown in 1952.

It’s the perfect movie to make you realize that anything is possible, even if the situation seems too daunting. Think you cannot resist the urge to eat fatty food? Anything is possible. Overwhelmed by the difficulty of your exercise routine? Anything is possible!

Blue Crush (2002)

Starring: Kate Bosworth, Michelle Rodriguez, Matthew Davis, Sanoe Lake

Sure, this film about surfer women in bikinis is a magnet for men. What makes this movie special for fitness buffs is the main character’s motivation to succeed. Kate Bosworth plays Anne Marie, a lady surfer whose dreams of a women’s surfing championship were crushed by a life-threatening accident that left her fearful to compete again.

However, the surfer in her just won’t die down, as she found herself competing again, this time with a bigger determination to conquer her fears and achieve her dreams.

I’m so excited to watch these movies again, not only for fitness sake but also for nostalgia. If you are interested in more videos about fitness, you may browse through my videos here in Viance, under the category Nutrition by Natalie.
