How Going Gluten Free Can Help Your Diet Program

Should your diet program be gluten free? That’s a question many people have about their diet program. While some people have real medical issues surrounding gluten, many others without severe issues can also benefit from a gluten free lifestyle.

What Are the Health Problems Associated with Gluten?

A diet program containing healthy foods may still cause you problems if these foods contain gluten. If you don’t tolerate gluten well, or have celiac disease and can’t have gluten at all, then you need more than just a healthy diet.

If you have celiac disease, your immune system assaults your intestines when you consume gluten. You can experience a host of health issues like weight gain, joint problems, neurological disorders, asthma, anemia, skin problems, and other various ailments. Symptoms can vary from person to person, and it may be difficult for your doctor to diagnose. Adjusting your diet program may be helpful in alleviating some of your symptoms.

What is Gluten Sensitivity?

Simply being gluten sensitive may mean your current diet program is causing some celiac-like symptoms. You may also encounter the upset stomach, bloating, migraines, weight loss or gain, skin problems, irritability, and more. Again, you’ll have to check with your doctor to determine if you are merely sensitive, or a full-blown sufferer. However, getting started in the right direction by eliminating gluten from your diet program is a good choice.

How to Get Started with a Gluten Free Diet

A gluten free diet program will eliminate many foods from your diet, but you’ll still be able to enjoy plenty of other fresh and tasty foods. Of course, wheat and wheat products must be removed. You’ll also want to eliminate rye, most oats, bulgur, triticale, barley, kamut, processed foods like common sauces and condiments, malts, beer and other alcohols, deli meats, some soy products, most chips, some seasonings, fast foods and more.

Check labels or inquire about the foods you eat. You’d be surprised how many items contain hidden gluten. Focus instead on getting healthy whole foods into your diet. Take it one day at a time, and before you know it, you’ll be feeling great and may even experience greater fat loss than ever before.
