Sticking to your diet program is not an easy task. Many of us are extremely motivated at the beginning of a new diet program, but as time passes and family, friends, and social events start to intrude on our regimen, the pressure to stray from our diets can be overwhelming.

You can join an online weight loss group; there are numerous online communities that offer support. Typically, there are also local groups in most communities that meet to support each other’s weight loss goals.

Or, if you prefer, you and a friend can team up to share goals, progress and challenges. Better yet; work out together and plan a diet program you can both follow.

Make Your Diet Program Your Lifestyle

When embarking on any diet program, your focus should be long term. It won’t do you much good to lose a lot of weight if you only gain it back. How do you prevent this? You learn new healthy eating habits one at a time. Then, you make these new habits a permanent part of your lifestyle.

Get into a routine with your eating and your workouts. It takes around twenty-one days to establish a new habit or routine in your life. If you can stick to your diet program for these first three critical weeks, continuing from there will start to become easier.

Every person on a diet program will face eventual challenges. When this happens, it’s important to have some strategies up your sleeve. One of the best things you can do is sit down and write out a list of all the reasons why you want to lose weight. Then, dig a little deeper. Continue to ask yourself “why” until you’ve exhausted all the possibilities.

When you are feeling tempted to throw in the towel, or you face a major setback, pull out your list of reasons why you wanted to lose weight in the first place. This list will help you get re-focused and motivate you to get back on track quickly.
